The Whaley middle school band program located in Compton, CA was the home of the 1st FYHB drum clinic. This clinic was presented by our founder, Calvin Martin Jr.
Students received insight on the music business, encouragement to go after what they want in life, and a lecture on the foundational elements to becoming a better percussionist: timing, groove, dynamics, and creativity.
Calvin worked with the students in groups on their timing and ability to play as a unit. A few lucky students received vouchers for one free drum lesson!
Ultimately, the entire event was a success and couldn’t have happened without the incredible students at Whaley Middle School and their committed Band director, Edward Vickers.
