Calvin L. Martin Jr.—musician, entrepreneur, and founder of FYHB has a story behind his journey and achievements. As a young man Calvin was fascinated with the entrepreneurial lifestyle. Helping his uncle sell fruit in Chicago’s inner city was his first taste of entrepreneurship and he has craved that feeling ever since. While in college at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Calvin was named head section leader of the University’s drumline. Additionally, he started his own band who performed at numerous campus events, inner city venues, and neighboring cities. He also launched his own photography business, taking portraits of graduating seniors.
Growing up in Chicago was very fascinating to Calvin, particularly because of his interaction with streetwear and branding. Because he was so passionate about bettering himself as a musician and finishing college, he could never quite find a way to combine his passions for business, music and fashion. Once he received his acceptance into the Musician’s Institute in Los Angeles California, that all changed. He quickly realized he didn’t have the financial resources to accommodate this huge endeavor. He initially developed FYHB thinking it would be a unique way to brand himself as a drummer. He printed his 1st set of shirts in hopes to earn extra money to fund his move to California. After a successful release, Calvin continued to design various FYHB products. Now he has created an authentic lifestyle brand that is a true reflection of how he lives. Calvin carefully groomed FYHB to become a brand that its’ supporters not only respect, but also look to as a haven of inspiration.
